Just in time for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival, Hainan has launched eight new premium senior-friendly tour routes with three main themes, meeting the wellness travel needs of seniors and bringing more options to the senior travel product market of Hainan. These newly released routes join the over 30 wellness and senior-friendly routes already on offer in the popular island destination, meeting the different retirement and vacation requirements of older travelers.

The eight new routes include a wide variety of elements such as international medical care, tropical rainforest nature, Li and Miao traditional medicine, coastal vacations, Dongpo culture, and educational tours, all optimized for age-friendliness: a relaxed pace, wellness guides, health checks, and wellness experiences will be available throughout, creating a well-coordinated, smooth travel experience combining health care, wellness, travel, learning, and entertainment.

The three main themes of the tours are health & wellness, entertainment, and education. Three senior health and wellness themed tour routes will give older travelers a chance to enjoy Bo’ao ainternational TCM therapies, Lecheng high-end medical screening, and Qiongzhong Baoting rainforest Li and Miao herbal bathing and fume therapy. Three senior entertainment themed tour routes will include intangible cultural heritage handicraft experiences, yachting excursions, and industrial sightseeing at the Yangpu Free Trade Port, while two senior education themed tours will take travelers on a journey through Wenchang space science, Tanka marine culture, and Dongpo poetry. There are also plans to establish a national Senior Dongpo Poetry Society.

Going forward, Hainan plans to continue to optimize the local senior tourism service system, guiding travel agencies, scenic spots, hotels, and other companies in the travel industry to improve age-friendly facilities and service standards with the goal of turning Hainan into a popular senior health and wellness travel destination on both the domestic and international market.
