During this year’s Labor Day holiday, Hainan welcomed a peak of inbound and outbound travel thanks to increased domestic and international cross-border tourism and higher numbers of travelers from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as more overseas Chinese returning for vacations and family reunions. The holiday period coincided with the arrival and departure of participants in the 6th Asian Beach Games, which were held in Sanya, Hainan. As of 4 pm May 5, a total of 40,000 inbound and outbound travelers passed through Haikou Customs, an increase of 8% year-on-year. These numbers include over 10,000 international visa-free travelers, up 14.5 over the previous year, with visa-free travelers mainly coming from Russia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Belarus.

At 10:24 on May 5, Flight TR118 from Singapore arrived at the Haikou Meilan International Airport, with all 226 passengers passing smoothly through customs. “I plan to travel to Haikou, Wenchang, and Sanya. Customs processing was very fast, and the experience was excellent.” said Xu Ruihai, a traveler from Singapore.

Travelers were assisted through the quick customs process at Meilan International Airport.

Since the Hainan Free Trade Port officially began special customs operations, the island province has boasted the best visa-free entry policy in China, welcoming travelers from a total of 86 countries around the world to enter Hainan visa-free. Meanwhile, Hainan’s international air network continues to expand, with passenger routes reaching many core travel regions including Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Thanks to both the visa free policy and the increasing number of available routes, travel to and from Hainan is becoming more and more convenient.

During the Labor Day holiday, Hainan Province hosted a total of 81 events, including promotions, exhibitions, and sporting events, providing travelers with a wide variety of interesting and fun vacation experiences.

To handle the increase in holiday traveler numbers, Hainan officials announced expected travel peak dates in advance, monitored changes in traveler flows in real time, and dynamically allocated resources to meet needs. Additional verification channels were opened, on-site signage was improved, and convenient customs measures were implemented in order to provide a welcoming, convenient travel experience for all.
